Located in Chengdu’s iconic Chunxi Road IFS complex, the SFEEL Design Hotel offers a reimagined hospitality experience rooted in the aesthetic dialogue between the city’s historic layers and its contemporary pulse. Designed by HARMO Studio, the project takes “urban aesthetics of the integration of old and new” as its conceptual foundation, translating it into a spatial narrative that is immersive, theatrical, and highly individualized.

The spatial core is a striking white atrium, pierced by a sculptural black staircase that introduces bold geometric contrast. This central feature not only organizes circulation but also becomes a dramatic visual anchor, expressing the tension between void and mass, softness and structure.

Public areas—corridors, lobbies, and lounges—are designed using diagonal cuts, floating partitions, and perforated surfaces, referencing the fragmented yet interwoven nature of Chengdu’s evolving urban fabric.
Guest rooms present a contrasting mood—serene, tactile, and warm. Earthy tones, natural wood, and soft-textured coatings create an atmosphere of tranquility and retreat. Metallic accents are used sparingly to suggest refinement, while linear strip windows frame external city views, subtly blending the interior and exterior worlds. The use of “framed views” also transforms the urban landscape into part of the interior design narrative.

The concept of “incompleteness” plays a central role in the design language. Asymmetry, exposed textures, and irregular compositions challenge the typical orderliness of hotel spaces. This approach invites guests to explore the space as a work-in-progress—alive, open to interpretation, and full of urban character.

Functionality remains integral. Smart systems, compact layouts, and modular furnishings enhance operational efficiency and guest comfort. The design supports both short and extended stays, while flexible zones accommodate various uses—dining, rest, or social gathering—within a coherent aesthetic framework.

Beyond visual impact, the SFEEL Design Hotel is a curated lifestyle experience. It is both a retreat and a reflection of the city’s complexity—a space where architecture, story, and culture converge. By blurring boundaries between old and new, private and public, complete and unfinished, the hotel captures the spirit of contemporary urban life in Chengdu and offers guests not just a place to stay, but a place to experience.
