On the Grands Boulevards in Paris, near the iconic Grand Rex, Studio Vincent Eschalier is breathing new life into an office and retail building while respecting its historical qualities. The goal was to bring harmony and a contemporary look to a building that had undergone numerous modifications, while respecting the surrounding architectural language.

Built in the 17th century, this building was once a family home. Its various changes in use over the decades led to numerous architectural interventions: the addition of wings, skylights, and elevation works. Despite some inconsistencies, the structure—comprising five floors above ground and a basement level—boasted significant architectural and heritage qualities. Studio Vincent Eschalier undertook the rehabilitation project with great attention to preserving and enhancing these distinctive elements.

The street-facing facades were meticulously restored to their original state, respecting the boulevard's identity. The building's commercial base was enhanced with a new dark gray granite cladding.

The workspaces, both simple and comfortable, feature custom-made desks crafted from light wood and linoleum. MVE-Collection curated the furniture selection to ensure overall project coherence, choosing pieces from designers such as Axel Chay, Margaux Keller, and Duplex Studio, and renowned design houses like Silvera, Movimento, and Petite Friture. The studio also selected a variety of plants. Custom-made cabinets equip the tea rooms and workspaces.

The interior boasts a relaxed, open, and bright style. Numerous exposed walls complement various types of wood, adding warmth to the space. The technical and structural elements are left visible on the ceiling and painted white for a uniform finish.

The historic staircases were preserved and refurbished. The living spaces and hallways are distinguished by their mineral flooring, the restrooms by their terracotta tiles, and the atrium by its opus incertum stone slabs.

The former central courtyard, the heart of the project, has become a generous living space bathed in natural light, thanks to the skylight above. Shielded from the hustle and bustle of this lively neighborhood, the roof of the building, at the heart of the plot, features an accessible green terrace, a true haven in the heart of the city.
