This is our second project for Hidden Away Hotels. Our first, Gran Hotel Inglés, was completed in 2018 in Madrid. The client specializes in hotels rooted in local history and authenticity.

For Seda Club Hotel, we were inspired by Granada’s centuries of Muslim rule, the silk trade that proliferated there at that time, and the British influence that arrived in 1492 when the last Muslim ruler in Iberia surrendered to Catholic monarchs. We imagined Seda Club Hotel as the ultimate gathering place, melting pot, and cultural center for the influx of European visitors and explorers who followed. The hotel has a luxurious social club feel, with rich woods, bronze metal, velvet, and marble, elaborate and residential FF&E. The effect is a series of discoverable spaces that feel exclusive, timeless, warm, and irreverent.

The reception area and lounge are classic spaces with a modern twist. Guests enter the hotel through a secret “members only” library that opens out into a wood-paneled lobby lounge delineated by a glowing, coved wood ceiling. Columns and walls are clad in a textured emerald plaster and velvet drapery. At the adjacent lobby bar, a glass and bronze light installation in the shape of archery bows wraps the top of the liquor wall and curves up onto the ceiling. The bar has a marble top and leather die with a polished bronze back bar and antique mirror wall accents. A private lounge is a transformable, residential space that can be a screening room, bar, conference room.

An intimate treatment inspired by the Roman Baths, with sculptured stone and Classical forms.

Each of the 21 guest rooms is unique. Beds have a custom leather headboard and a surrounding framework composed of brushed brass rods. Lamps, mirrors, and accessories hang from the framework. Chevron wood floors, area rugs, and velvet drapery round out the tailored feel. Tiling in the bathrooms references the glazed tile mosaics of the Alhambra. Closet walls are covered in a tweed-like fabric with red piping and leather details for a bespoke feeling.

Referencing the region’s numerous bird species, the rooftop lounge and bar is a colorful, playful space with views of the nearby cathedral. A mosaic tile floor in a traditional local pattern is the backdrop to lush plantings in ceramic pots and a wood pergola with an ornate bird- and floral-pattern canvas canopy. The water fountain features a bird-inspired mosaic.
