Triangular stars, roof tiles and hair running cut are the core design elements of the Seaport City in Xiaolan. Triangular stars are used as the recurring motive throughout the shopping mall for unity. We especially incorporated overlapping tiles up the wall near the rail in the atrium, the largest open area of the mall so as to focus the shopping mall’s design; the scattering of tiles between the patchworks allows sunlight to seep through, creating an lively atmosphere. Airy transparent and dimensional stories designs are adopted to balance out the atrium. By implying the Hair Running Cut design concept on the rectangular aluminum hanging poles at the atrium, we construct a variety of layered shapes on it for a stylish tone, which assemble the hair held by the hair stylist. In addition, wall paintings echo different cultural concepts and types of shops are sprayed on each convenient passage, introducing splendor and interesting elements into these boring space. We value visual “wow” effects as much as customers and merchants’ experience when designing the shopping mall and strike to cater both the comfortless and functionality of the design, in hope of creating a comfortable, artistic and innovative shopping space that illustrates cultural concepts such as environmental protection, parent-child entertainment, music, arts, etc.
