Set above the busy concourse of Waterloo Station, TOG’s latest workspace Scott House provides 3000 sqm of office space across three floors. To create a serene and calming environment, Ben Adams Architects worked with TOG to create a Japanese inspired aesthetic, delivered across each of the communal workspaces and meeting rooms.
To instil a sense of peacefulness and tranquillity, a neutral palette of white tinted ash and birch plywood materials was used throughout. In contrast, each meeting room has been given a distinct pop of colour, carried through to the interior furnishings.
Ben Adams Architects has designed a bespoke grid system - influenced by Tatami from Japan, which was implemented throughout Scott House, to divide, frame and highlight focus areas. It is also translated into the tile pattern in the kitchen to larger versions used as flooring. In addition, reeded glass enhances the privacy of the lower level meeting rooms and maximises the flow of light through the space.
The double-height reception and main communal lounge space is also flooded with natural light, augmented by oversized paper lantern pendants and contemporary wall lights which span horizontally, aligning with the wall panelling.
The discovery and restoration of the original two-tone marble stairwell was an integral part of the refurbishment project, influencing the addition of marble accents for the light fixtures and furniture selected.
