Placed in the vicinity of the famous “Pfullinger Hallen”, the building should play a self-effacing counterpart to the historical building. For that, the outside has a more restraining appearing. The main hall on the other hand, should be a significant contrast to that. The idea was to create something like a jewelry case: robust on the outside but cladded with a high valuable material on the inside. The public building is often used by schools and sport-clubs, so most of the visitors are expected to be of younger age. To give them a good sense of orientation, a visual connection to the main hall is given from almost every place inside the building. All accesses are of course free of barriers. The acoustic boards used on the ceiling have been carefully developed for this project by the architect and one of the construction companies. The new product is ball-proofed and meets the fire-safety requirements to be used inside an event location. Due to that, the building can be used for concerts, exhibitions and other events, too. The structural glazing floor-to-ceiling windows are a custom build modification of a standard product, to match the German requirements for a usage inside a sport room. All walls in the main hall act as a shock absorber. The sporting equipment is state-of-the-art and has been carefully embedded into the carpenter made walls and ceiling.
