Santa Monica Proper is the city’s only luxury lifestyle hotel. The property is set within a circa-1928 Spanish Colonial Revival building, thoughtfully restored to its former glory and merged with a new construction to form the city’s latest hospitality concept. The hotel is situated moments away from the Westside coastline—a convenience for guests, but also a source of inspiration to Kelly Wearstler, whose bold vision is evident within the design of the property. The 271-guest room hotel spans six floors. It features the only rooftop pool in the neighbourhood, a 3000-square-foot flagship Surya Spa, and destination restaurant, Onda: marking a collaboration between award-winning chefs Jessica Koslow and Gabriela Camara. Layers of soft colours, textures, natural sunlight and ocean breezes await guests who enter the hotel, evoking a sense of the breath-taking coastline only a walk away from the property. Room designs are distinct: clean-lined environments that are grounded in bold, neutral schemes of organic textures, materials, and natural elements: sandy palettes, light hardwoods underfoot, and grass cloths. To further enhance the site-specific, artisanal feel in public spaces, Wearstler collaborated with the finest names in L.A. art, such as Ben Medansky and Bradley Duncan for original works and signature installations. Brought together, these elements create the unmistakable Proper experience: one which offers the best of the local area and a thoughtful approach to luxury.
