Building the DSB train station at Roskilde Festival is the largest scale project we have done so far. Housing train ticket sales, DADL volunteers, RF entrance gates and a 7-11 booth, we used four 20 ft containers, a 40 ft reefer and four 10 ft containers and a whole lot of wood. Regarding the visual identity it was clear to us that the iconic DSB color – red – should be an eminent feature with 200 litres of paint. Our main goal was to create and design a landmark of its own which this temporary train station has become. The general idea was to take the six angled DSB logo itself and extrude it in heights of 6, 8, 10 and 12 metres resembling almost a lipstick kind of tower which draws the attention back to the columns of the Karnak Temple in Luxor, Egypt or the StoneHenge as a focal and meeting point. We replaced a railway halt with this project and it has been recognised broadly in Danish media. The design will come up as a temporary trainstation for at least 3 years in a row and maybe more as the ticketsales has gone 30% up. The large artistic design has become the biggest marketing stunt for DSB in 15 years, and is a great focal point on the festival. Almost an art project in itself. Our believe is that mixing temporary functionality with an artistic approach can create something that no one expected.
