RICCA is a bar located in Kagurazaka, Tokyo, a town where the aesthetic Japanese atmosphere strongly remains. My design inspiration came from “Hanami”, the cultural icon that reflects the Japanese aesthetics of glorious yet delicate beauty. The bar consists of the lounge area and the private room area, where cherry blossom inspired objet d’art canopy the entire ceiling. The ornaments are made of laser cut resin plate placed between holographic papers. The creases of plates are created by hand-operating a press machine, creating unique cuts and angles on each hexagon shaped resin plate. The light reflections create the mesmerizing lighting structure that is resemble to the cherry blossom petals dancing in the air. The red translucent film papers that are placed over the resin plates in the lounge area creates an intimate atmosphere. In contrast, the ornaments in the private karaokess room remains the original colors to create fun and active ambience. The adornments are hung down in the center of room to resemble chandelier and the lights are illumined from both in and outside; the light shining toward the ornaments refracts prismatically while the light beaming from inside the objects projects flower shaped images all over the room. The bar reinterprets the aesthetic sense of flower that is deeply rooted in the Japanese culture.
