The task: to create – Republic of Fritz Hansen Exhibition – an exhibition space that compresses 140 years of design history into a 36sqm booth. This project, though not large-scaled, is bursting with pure love of what design really is. The solution was to keep it simple. Less is always more. The design took its inspirations from time and how it moves. The products at the Republic of Fritz Hansen have so much to tell. Like an old clock, one’s desire to turn back time; like a child, growing up all over again. The design was simple. A revolving centerpiece which we called it the Carousel. It was the heart of the project, comprising of design classic icons such as the PK series, Egg Chair, modern Fri Chair and the fun-loving Drop Chair. It was entertaining thinking how the wheels of design passes by. We thought – playful, time and having fun. Hence, the Carousel became the common metaphor, the relationship of time and movement with a playful accent. The back drop was done in simple powder blue, a symbol inspired by Arne Jacobsen’s SAS house (1955-1960), Room 606 at the Royal Hotel in Denmark. For those who had a chance to be in the tranquility of the room, the design stood still to the surrounding world of ever evolving design.
