The space was conceived to be an open collaborative environment with a direct connection to the sidewalk pedestrians. This hair salon took over from a previous tenant which had segmented the spaces into several rooms. Previously, all original surfaces of the ground floor space were hidden. The ceiling lowered by office-type ceiling tile, the floor with tile, the brick walls covered in layers of drywall. With most partitions removed, an existing tin ceiling exposed, the original wood floor sanded and the long brick wall uncovered on one side, the salon is at once warm and open. The choice of fixtures was meant to be natural, humble and inviting with rounded edges and softer corners. In all, the Redge Annex is a work space filled with light where workers, clients and plants can find a place to work, rest and grow, respectively.
