Designed for a multi-generational family of six, this spacious 5,000 sqf, eight-bedroom duplex combines three properties into a single connected home, creating a comfortable space for the family members to reside together while enjoying ample space and privacy.
The property was completely demolished, leaving bare shells. A new staircase was built to connect with the upper entity. The stairway was highlighted with a modern pendant light, a sculptural wooden banister, and floor-to-ceiling mirrors to create a bright and spacious ambiance.
With the magic of mirrors, skillfully positioned at each end of the bay windows on both floors, the sea view and statue of mother goddess Kwun Yum on the hills beyond were seamlessly brought into the home, evoking serene emotional impact that leaves the owner delighted.
Through engaging discussions with the family, an ideal layout that caters to their needs was crafted. The design features three downstairs bedrooms for the mature family members, along with a guest room, two kitchens, domestic helper quarters, a laundry room, and a lounge connecting the dining and living room. Upstairs are two bedrooms for the younger generations, an additional guest room, and a multi-purpose space which encompasses a chic home bar with an extended home gym and a distinct yoga nook which can also be transformed into a majong room.
The home bar design features a combination of linear and curved lines that flows naturally. Intricate layers of LED lights illuminate the linear shelves to enhance the illusion of floating, creating a calming rhythm by keeping the eye travelling infinitely through the space.
The natural fluidity of the sliding door at the multi-purpose space creates a harmonious integration of two distinct hubs. A sense of calm continues as you transit from the home bar and gym area into the light-filled nook for yoga, providing flexibility to close off one space for privacy.
The beauty of multi-generational living is spending time as a family. The design achieves a harmonious blend of shared and private spaces, with generous living, dining, and lounge areas for family get-togethers, alongside versatile spaces for personal retreats. Bedrooms are strategically located at the rear, ensuring uninterrupted rest. Japanese-style soaking tubs bring a touch of luxury to every bedroom.
The aero-themed en-suite reflects the owner's passion for aviation. Inspired by aircraft design, the wingtip study table and aero shelves feature sleek, curved edges reminiscent of airplane wings. A strategically placed mirror transforms the cabinet into a striking display showcase for the owner's collectibles.
The project involved accommodating intricate dynamics of a multi-generational family comprising six individuals, each with their distinct lifestyles. The outcome is a harmonious design catering all homeowners' needs, providing a space where they can relax, rejuvenate, and discover comfort.
