•Project Theme : Store space wrapped in color gradation of anode-oxidized titanium
•Concept of the Gallery : The PRESS BUTTER SAND Gallery is a place for experimentation and practice creating sweets that stimulate the senses.
The products break away from preconceptions by combining ingredients that have never been used in the standard PRESS BUTTER SAND, deviating from common practices by using different quantities of ingredients, and so on. Dishes that resemble scientific experiments created at the three-star restaurant El Bulli in Spain have revolutionized culinary styles worldwide. In the same way, we wanted Pressed Butter Sandwich Gallery to be a brand that would alter the confectionery industry's future.
We thought about how to express the brand using elements of chemical reaction in the store's design.
•Adopting Titanium : We superimposed the image of titanium, a material that causes chemical reactions by applying heat or changing the thickness of the anode oxide layer, on the brand with infinite possibilities, which is still not yet fully defined and can take on any color. This material, which exhibits various colors and expressions, is lighter and more durable than stainless steel. While it is often used in sensitive environments, such as medical and aeronautical settings, its design possibilities have not been widely recognized because of the processing difficulty and high cost. By exploring titanium's unique design possibilities and incorporating them into the design, we successfully expressed the ingenuity and inquisitiveness underpinned by experiences accumulated at the Press Butter Sand Gallery.
•How Titanium Is Used : The design maximizes the expression of titanium or its color gradation on a single plate produced by anodic oxidation. We surrounded the fixtures with titanium plates so the color gradation connects seamlessly in this space.
The titanium's expression changes with the reflectivity of light, according to the viewing angle and reflections as you walk around. The titanium shape gradually lowers from the kitchen side to the showcase. The store design allows customers to be inspired by the color gradation of titanium and its changing expressions during the purchasing experience, from the manufacturing process to the selection of products and the payment procedure.
•Detail Design : Given its extreme strength and high cost, we decided to use extremely thin Titanium, 0.6 mm thick. The semi-circular rounded corners were intended for safety and to give a soft impression to the entire fixture.
