Stylish playroom in grandmother home office in Tel Aviv Our very elegant client came to our first meeting wearing a special shirt, each part of her garment had the same pattern and the same color stitched to each other in a different direction. She is a lawyer and a highly active grandmother with a home office. The room is space sustainable combining two functions in one room, a home office and a playing / napping room for her grandchildren that come very often. The symbiosis between interior design and product design exists in varies levels in all our projects. We have a small workshop in our office that allows us to check the construction of the details we design. Our Client’s home office room is in a sophisticated apartment, with masculine artworks on the walls since the ‘art coordinator’ is the husband. Our approach was to provide her, her own artwork. We went to our sketch pads and started to imagine what femininity meant to us in regarding to our client. The image that came to us was of the organic shapes of the growth of leaves and their insides. The arteries of the leaves reminded us the pattern of the weave of the fabrics she loves. In the back of our heads was that first image of her shirt. That fabric feel was the feminine softness we were looking for. After we were set on the concept and the visual imagery, We chose copper as a dominant material having very warm and soft color and shine, wooden floors, powder pink as an accent color and light gray as a background. We wanted to achieve Softness in touch and aesthetics in all the elements that were designed for the room especially for the large volume of closet/ storage facades, so we made samples of textures out of wood in our office workshop. We took the samples to the carpenter for deliberation on the Feasibility of the production of that texture. The carpenter suggested a 3d print to get that texture effect. Sustainability is reflected in a local production of each element designed for the room. The handles were another surface that we wanted to soften. We were planning to incorporate actual fabric in them. As we were looking for a linear textured mesh, we have discovered it does not exist. Linear patterned mesh does not exist because it would fall apart. It needs to have a Reinforcement seam which would make it a square. So, we came up with a solution that imitates that visual effect. The metal workshop has suggested to laser cut a dark metal plate and add it as a layer in front of the copper background. Lighting fixtures and a desk were custom designed and built in the same aesthetics. The desk has a privacy screen incorporated with soft organic aesthetics as do the lighting fixtures. During production we have discovered along with the metal workers that coper comes in specific thickness and diameters, it Made the production more challenging, and made us make some adjustments so that our design could meet the reality. A grandchildren desk was designed so that they will not harm her desk with their artwork. The desk could be tucked in the surrounding cabinets. A special mattress enclosed and folded in a compartment under the seating was ordered for the toddler’s nap.
