Change is not always easily accepted; changes can be confusing and when you move from an office space that has been the home to its employees for more than 10 years to a completely different location, change can be seen as foreign. This is what happened when the design process of our new home project started. Our new office is based at the outstanding Edifício Italia, designed by Franz Heep in downtown São Paulo, a place where many different cultures and urban groups gather daily while working, studying, traveling, visiting family or friends, even going to party at the vibrant nightlife, like a cauldron with boiling water constantly changing. When the design process first began, we knew that the identity of the building and neighborhood had to be preserved and reflected in our workspace, but at the same time, the space must resemble us: vibrant, extravagant, and with a touch of “Brazility”, which means a mix of cultures, colors and textures, from our country and worldwide, in the same way, our culture has been built up through all these years. Speaking of the space itself, it should look and act like a mix of our design manners and architectural references, reflecting who we are in a way that every architect who work here or guest who visits think: “it looks like Pitá”, it’s our home, and who we are. It differs from other usual offices right at the entrance, with no reception or attendance desk, the office is open right from the hallway to the samples room, painted with blue walls, ceiling, and furniture, giving access to the central area. The central area is composed of the lounge and workspace. The lounge stands between four large concrete columns, where it is surrounded by the work desks and the unique central “library,” or bookshelf, on which books rest on top of a metal I beam, with colorful lockers below the beam so the architects can store their belongings close to the work desks. Near the apex of the building, there is a bar designed for happy hours, meals, informal meetings, or just to sit, relax, and chat. The environment exhales what we’d like to call “Brazility”, with several plants, colorful furniture, and vibrant details. The walls of the bar are covered with square green tiles, but at some moments they can be replaced by small mirrors, shaped the same size of the tiles, to reflect the city into the office space. Returning to the design process, the office was created to guide those who enter through different feelings and appearances. While the open space is clean, with a touch of color in the furniture; the meeting rooms are the opposite: they are vibrant, with a broad variety of finishes, textures, and colors, with the use of colorful carpet and furniture and extravagant wallpapers. With this effort our goal was achieved: it feels like home, it feels like our space, and it looks us, like Pitá. Welcome to our new home.
