This latest Pinterest headquarters occupies a new six story building in San Francisco's Central SOMA district, close to Pinterest's earlier workspaces down the street. It is inspired by the company's web platform design - clean, simple, intuitive, and a canvas for creativity. The main lobby at ground level is a public space, within which a cafe called The Point is operated by Pinterest. Similar to the earlier HQ design, a bespoke wood ceiling along Brannan Street and custom built-in furniture ar designed to act as a 'superthreshold' between Pinterest and the city.
The all-hands/dining space occupies most of the second floor. A Connective Stair linking this level to all upper floors switches back and hangs from the ceiling as a sculptural object that animates the lobby below. The stair forms a linear cascade for the upper four floors. At each level, a pantry and lounges are positioned adjacent to where the stair lands. A porous band of meeting spaces, detailed with intersecting glass corners, is a spatial interface between the stair and perimeter workstations, which are located to take advantage of daylight via large windows on three sides.
The Connective Stair acts as the central organizing figure to the workspace. With its porous enclosure of white vertical steel rods, this central stair offers filtered views through the workspace. The stair landings intersect with walkways, lounges and pantries at each level, encouraging impromptu encounters among Pinterest employees.
