Pfandkasten is an interactive fundraising installation. Its goal is to raise funds for chosen non-commercial organisations whilst providing donors with a unique, engaging experience.
In most bars, you are asked to make a small deposit and given a token in exchange for your glass or bottle. This is where Pfandkasten comes in. Instead of collecting your deposit after returning your glass you can convert it into a donation of the same value.
Unlike most, Pfandkasten rewards it’s donors with an interactive experience. Insert your token and a simple ‘thank you’ sign springs up in the front window.
Pfandkasten asks if you would like to have your picture taken. Your choice is a red ‘no’ button or the green ‘yes’ button. ‘No’ will end your interaction, however, choose ‘yes’ and another sign pops up containing a small camera and the choice of having your picture uploaded to the website and Facebook.
Pfandkasten will then begin printing your photograph, its donations total and quirky sayings on 3 thermal receipt printers.
Blending the physical attributes of Pfandkasten with digital platforms means that even after the initial interaction is over the donor can still check back to see any updates and share their own.
To promote Pfandkasten, the proprietor can live-stream the donation total and proverbs to screens on the exterior of the premises, encouraging customers to participate.
