Residential design provides a certain flexibility in terms of design freedom, in this case our studio was tasked with the rebuilding of an old apartment on a 28th floor overlooking the city. This family does not collect art nor has an intention to do so so what we did was to think of furniture as a collection of pieces that spoke of different eras of design, natural stone materials, iconic items such as the tulip chair from Knoll and others.

The color palette is a mixture of earth colors with strong black accents and color blocks such as the blue sofa in the living room. The search for lack of edges was due to the client requesting their apartment to be as safe as possible for their toddler, All of these curves sit in juxtaposition to the oversized parquet flooring throughout. Rugs are hand made by local artisans in Colombia from Verdi, custom made in its entirety, color, size, fibers, you name it.

Originally the apartment had two staircases and the second floor was not connected, this created connection ended up being the main piece of the apartment; a big void that overlooks the terrace and dining room where a series of Apparatus lamps hang giving a dramatic effect to the space while not blocking the view from anywhere. The living room has on a corner, another Apparatus lamp finished with a soft suede to accompany the roughness of the natural fibers wallpaper surrounding it.

The second floor hosts the master bedroom right off the stairs and then off the bridge overlooking the entire apartment and the city outside brings you to a lobby that houses his and her office and a game room for their little one to not wander far by themselves.

The entire apartment, being on a 28th and last floor has solar panels that are able to sustain about 80% of the energy needs, self irrigation systems on terraces for their plants to stay healthy. The whole project was thought of to be child friendly, with a unique aesthetic pursuit and able to host the lifestyle of the owners.
