The PEN® Space is the bio-architectonic result of a series of artisanal processes and traditional techniques. Made of HEMP, the main raw material of the project and accompanied by bamboo ceilings covered with quiklime, floors made of alabaster plaster and plaster of Paris that support a very marked structure of beams with imposing wood cedar parts.

The refurbishing brings the space into the natural environment to achieve an honest construction in which the materials used outside are an invitation to discover the materials used inside. Traditional bio-construction systems were recovered through the use of autochthonous natural materials: HEMP / BAMBOO / LIMESTONE / PLASTER OF PARIS / ALABASTRIAN PLASTER / CERAMICS / CEDAR WOOD

HEMP is a raw material that we use in the construction of walls, in the search for maximum health and environmental benefits, improving breathability, thermal regulation and reducing the carbon footprint of the spaces and habitats designed. The interior walls and interior envelope of these spaces are built using large HEMP walls from 7cm. to 25cm thickness, with the hand ramming technique, with a combination of Hemp + Lime + Water + Minerals binder (*Made by our own hole team).

An ode to nature, responsibility and health of people, we use this material in a new contemporary context, where the tangibility of natural raw materials such as HEMP, maintain an organic dialogue with high quality finishes in the search for balance of opposites.

HEMP is a fast-growing strain of the cannabis plant, used as one of the most valued materials in green building, as it is able to sequester carbon, ensuring a low level of carbon incorporated into the spaces.

Properties
• Hemp is considered a carbon negative material. Its production destroys more carbon dioxide than is generated, it absorbs CO2.

• Capable of synthesizing carbon and reducing pollution by reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere; reduce pollutant emissions from the construction process and provide a healthy environment inside the spaces

100% recyclable at the end of their life cycle, decomposing in a natural way if not recycled.

Resistant against mold, as they absorb moisture (one square meter of hemp wall absorbs up to 14 liters of water, which is then released)

Naturally Non-Toxic
• The insulating properties of hemp allow significant energy savings.

Resistant against microbes and insects

Excellent insulators from the thermal and acoustic point of view

• Lightweight, fire resistant and with a high level of breathability

• Lasts 100´s of years

PEN® is a social space where CREATIVITY, INTERIOR DESIGN and PRODUCT come together giving life to new cultural experiences that emerge at the converging points between brand narrative, projects and products, in a constant transformation. A space to exhibit and disseminate design culture in order to build and nourish new forms of content for an audience that is sensitized to new generations and novel forms of products showcasing.
