An organic work environment where one can experience the outdoors while being indoors. A perfect mingle of work, leisure and holiday in a sustainable business environment. Why not mix those elements...?! The clients request was to create a future proof sustainable office environment where they can invite clients in a casual and relaxed setting. Where they can collaborate and educate clients and employees. Why? Their newly built building is located in an industrial part of Amsterdam (Northern part) and is going to be a green haven in their surroundings, it is just like the location of Central Park in New York. In the initial phase we had a conversation with the client and we were wondering why we only go to lovely places for only 25 days a year (or less...) during our holidays... Why not spend 300+ days a year in a really nice natural surrounding while doing our work? Herewith the PARK OFFICE CONCEPT was born. To be honest this PARK OFFICE CONCEPT is quite a visionary design. The design was delivered before the world was confronted with Covid-19. The PARK OFFICE CONCEPT proved that it is future proof; it is more like a hub & club where employees come and go and clients come to collaborate whenever they feel like. There is more than enough space for internal and external collaboration. One can choose from a solitary concentration booth to an arena to attend group presentations, to a regular workstation and several kinds of high and low seated conference spaces. The InteriorWorks office environment is therefore future proof. Employees and clients love to go here and spend their day wandering or working in this environment, like a walk in the park. It is an absolute winner when you talk about the ‘war on talent’, who does not want to spend their time here?! We restricted ourselves by only using regained materials and/or sustainable solutions for the interior design. Applications were for example: • regained wood from the industrial neighbourhood for all wooden joinery works and stage floors • regained partitioning walls and transparent partitioning (except the curved corners) in a circle of 100km from the location • regained steel for the bar area and joinery works • all LED lighting armatures (by supplier Modular) In our vision we did not want to use rectangular shapes in this rectangular building. In nature rectangular lines do not exist. The human movement is based on fluent and organic shapes. The design reflects these movements. Like walking through a park while enjoying new sightlines and surprises every time you come to a new junction in the layout. The interior was realised in a newly built building, according to WELL-standards with an energy neutral climate system. Employees not only feel the luxury of a well used indoor climate, they can also make use of a sports field on the roof of the building (a garden and a basketball field). Solar panels on the roof take care of the electricity. Heating from biomass of the retour stream of wood in the primary process. Passive window screens keep the heat of the sun outside in summer months. In winter months a floor heating system takes care of a comfortable indoor air temperature. All installations are based on a Variable Refrigerant Flow and Heat Recovery System. The indoor climate of this office environment improves every single day and night, because of the abundant presence of indoor plants and trees. The plants also create a perfect balance between hydration and oxygen in this healthy space. Even at night special lighting from regained energy shines on special plants that clean the indoor climate. The client was blown away in a positive way after our first presentation of these sketches as it reflected all the requirements: the experience of a friendly, cosy and casual setting while being at work. The core business of the client is also based on these values we translated in the design; analysing the way clients love to work. What is the atmosphere in the space, what are your ambitions, what is the brand identity of the company? It is al translated in this design. They believe in the power of a well thought concept. The human factor is one of the most important thing an office design needs to include. Human scaled and activity based design where there is a perfect balance between rational and emotional values. Think about happiness, sustainability, health, relaxation, safety and details. The better the concept suits the client and employee, the more satisfied they are and the more productive they can be. A win-win situation. A work environment that inspires and is not only practical and efficient but also fun. A place where each person, introvert or extravert, can be its own authentic self.
