The space is a composition in light and breezes - a welcoming place to gather and break bread with friends. The rough surfaces of the existing historic space are a fitting backdrop for ODG’s light handed and refined approach to new elements. This juxtaposition between the raw concrete of the structure set against the warmth of wood elements and terrazzo creates a sense of elegant minimalism meant to compliment the seasonal and ingredient driven food and coffee offerings. This is a major focus for the PCP team. The simple forms and seductive colors of the furnishings complete the palette. To create surprise and drama at the entry, ODG put a twist on the typical monolithic approach to terrazzo and integrated marble remnants, treating them like a graphic installation. A series of roll up garage doors open the space to the outside as much as possible to take advantage of the corner location, beautiful LA days, and to encourage interaction between people inside and out. The goal is for people to see a friend sitting in the window and be able to pop down next to them for a moment, say hello, and make a connection before moving on. A reimagined take away window is tucked around the corner from the main entrance for customers in a hurry who just have time to grab a good coffee, but still want to be treated to a nice experience.
