“Building ideal structures for different environments. This is a story about glasses, not architecture.” The design of Papyrus flagship store at Nineone Hannam, in Seoul, Korea, began with thoughts that glasses are similar to architecture. The fundamentals of both eyewear and architecture lie upon the idea of building ideal structures for each different environment. Envisioning site surveys, program analysis, mass and material study to find the perfectly fitted glasses on each different facial structures of individuals, We composed the ideal structure for Papyrus flagship store. Seeing an existing column to be the first objet placed in the space, we added other objet masses to create the ideal composition. A set of the masses is covered in red-colored stainless steel with a contrasting soft suede surface within for displaying eyewear. Then, we used a contrasting blue color in the rest of the areas such as wall, floor and ceiling, intensifying the red steel structure. For the optometry room, where a bright and white space was required, we treated the space as a white void within the overall composition of red and blue. Lastly, a set of lighting fixtures by Viabizzuno in collaboration with WGNB is mounted on the ceiling surface, lighting up the space visually and aesthetically.
