Why is architecture often represented by the outside, but not the inside? In this 1,870 sq.ft. apartment, the designer flips it around to bring the architectural design of the outside, in. The client is a young couple, they lived in a hip, industrial loft before returning to Hong Kong. The couple favour in minimal and modern design, therefore the designer Regina Kwok inputted architectural elements, cement to their new home to create a modern industrial look, the wall panels or the floor are covered with this “outside” material. To meet their requirements, the overall design is in clean and simple form, a clutter-free space is ready for them to enjoy the sea view. As the client is a young couple who preferred openness over number of rooms, the designer aggressively took down walls, she turned the 4- bedroom and 3-bath layout to 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. To create that loft space feel, a sliding door separates the living room from the master bedroom. When it is just the two of them at home, the owners can open the doors and the entire space from living room to bedroom, can be open. Moreover, the master bedroom, ensuite bath and leisure area are separated by glass panels, to make sure the owners can enjoy the sea view from different angles. When privacy is required, the glass used is electrified privacy glass “Smartglass”, that can become opaque for an intimate moment.
