Onkel Henrys Tattoo Shop is a future focused boutique tattoo studio that is steeped in heritage. Owned & operated by Terje Leistad Heggvik, the Onkel Henrys brand has been at the forefront of the Norwegian tattoo market for over 10 years. The name was inspired by Terje´s uncle, who as one of Trøndelag´s proud sailers, had a reputation of being a free spirit & was a man of uncontrollable heroism. One who, throughout his life, accumulated tattoos from all over the world & who would regale all with the incredible stories that went with each one.

As such it was paramount the interior concept for the new flag ship studio reflect & reinforce the passion & determinism both Henry & Terje share. Balancing their unyielding roots with the visual appeal necessary to be embraced by the decerning new breed of tattoo lover. This, coupled with the existing mid-century design language of the site itself, provided the basis for the brief.

A colour palette of cool blue, grey, green & white walls were used to contrast the natural rough granite texture of the counter. All to evoke the ever-changing local weather patterns set against the rugged terrain of the Norwegian coastal backdrop. Double height mirrors were incorporated to maximise this effect & add emphasis to the mid-century feature staircase. All of which we then balanced bringing warmth to the scheme using a combination of bespoke Teak fitted carpentry, brass detailing & a mix of contemporary & vintage furniture pieces.

It was also imperative that the lighting scheme provided a multifunctional use. Utilising the latest technology to provide the closest recreation of natural light on the market within our bespoke lighting system. Whilst allowing the studio the greatest flexibility operationally by including the capacity to dim down, providing a much warmer light for after-hours events.
