Texture of scent
Nose Shop is Japan's first boutique for niche fragrances, featuring unique scents from around the world.
The Japanese perfume culture is still lagging behind that of the rest of the world, partly because perfume is considered to be a bit far from cultural context for Japanese people.
How can we make perfume more accessible?
To archive the brand’s goal, “democratisation fo perfume (spreading the perfume culture) in Japan”, we are focusing how the interior space make an opportunity to blend perfume into daily lives as well as expanding the market for perfume in Japan in real store design.
In order to make perfumes more accessible and understandable, our design approach was to use language and objects to describe the invisible scents in the air.
There are infinite variations of scent, but we have tried to express the scent of perfume in the same way that we express the taste and smell of wine in our language.
transparent, clear scent
smooth, round scent
slippery, light scent
scents with warmth or coolness
a sharp, angular scent
slightly rough scent etc…
In addition, by translating language into concrete materials, such as steel, plaster, mortar, we embodied fragrances and expressed the textures of scents. Nose shop is "a sensory shop" where you can see (visual), touch (tactile), smell (olfactory), talk (verbal) with scent. opening up a new era of fragrances.
