This renovation for a church in Hong Kong began with the need to accommodate multifunctional spaces. Aside from the weekly service, the church also hosts various fellowships and classes which, prior to the renovation often overlapped and had to compete for space. The new design utilizes movable wall panels at the rear of the church hall, allowing for a flexible multipurpose space when service is not in session. In terms of materiality, the predominantly light and natural material palette creates a calm atmosphere. Timber louvers along the entrance of the church hall provides a sense of porosity to the space. Wooden pews on either side of the aisle form a strong perspective toward the altar and cross, echoed by custom pendant lights suspended from the ceiling.
