The original project site involved a newly-completed residence, featuring the advantages of a regular square space. However, the space itself has large beams, thus creating a sense of visual oppression. In light of this, the design team used a coved ceiling design to subtly address the problem of the sense of spatial oppression.
This interior is mainly dominated by black and white tones, which not only divides the space, but also outline the contours of the space and lead in the natural lighting of the patio, allowing the space to feel more spaciously comfortable through the adept arrangement of movement and lighting design, which not only satisfies the male and female homeowners' preference for color tone and functional preferences, but also allows them to feel the attention to detail when they step into the house. This is further perfected by the careful selection of materials, the bonus effect of black and white on the space is maximized.
By creating a looping and circular movement flow in the living room, kitchen island and master’s bedroom, the space becomes airy and spacious, which not only adds to the integration of connecting spaces, but also allows for a more harmonious and comfortable pace of life. By adopting curved and coved designs for the ceiling, cabinets and walls, the black and white tones become more sleek while offering a soft undertone, making the space warmer and more welcoming. The master’s bedroom closet is made by integrating woodworking and system cabinets, while the black and white tones are used to divide the functions for the male and female owners.
In the patio area, the design is made of fair-faced concrete (completed by the original developer), which offers a charming rustic taste and brings out a refreshing look when light is introduced. The kitchen center island is designed with special FENIX anti-fingerprint thermal healing HPL panels, which have the advantages of low reflectivity, super matte surface, anti-fingerprint, soft and comfortable touch and also features thermal healing of superficial micro-scratches; for the living room, white tiles are used on the floor and black tiles are used for the kitchen island.
The whole space is designed in a black and white design vocabulary to form a modern and simple living ambience, showcasing a clean and streamlined space. With the circular looping movement flow and curved design, the space offers a smooth and spontaneous style with a soft and well-rounded coziness. This is further accentuated by a combination of materials and lighting to create a black-and-white quality to the space, allowing life and space to intertwine to create a refined and simple everyday lighting scene.
The design team, which attaches importance to environmental sustainability, introduced natural lighting through the patio to reduce the amount of electricity used for artificial lighting.
