A new audio recording & post production facility for the Faculty of Arts, School of Media & Film, featuring state of the art technology, teaching aids and design. A dance studio transformed into a 5 room music and audio teaching complex, featuring two Dolby 5.1 Control Rooms, two Live Rooms, a Foley Booth and a Green Room. Equipment features digital and analogue recording and processing, and includes a height adjustable mixing desk to cater for every student (a key deliverable) – this is the first of its kind. The original Maple floor was retained for its acoustic value and Maple became a feature throughout. The high ceiling enabled expansive designs and VA collaborated with Italian company Wood-Skin to create an intricate ceiling diffuser for aesthetic and acoustic effect. Each studio features fully adjustable LED/RGB lighting encouraging students to create their own mood and ambience. The Wood-Skin diffuser incorporates two Velux Sun Tunnels providing natural daylight – a rarity within studio environments. Each studio is finished in colours to reflect the launch of the new University branding. Unique CNC machined RPG diffusers are colour co-ordinated for each Live Room, AC vents custom finished, and graphics added to reinforce the University brand. The Maple detailing continues through the entrance lobby where doors and openings are formed in solid timber. A tactile sound wave covers a corridor wall formed of 127 shaped solid Maple slats that says “UoW”.
