In the course of Oslo Airport expansion and modernisation of the Arrivals terminal, Gebr. Heinemann, the leading enterprise for duty free & travel retail in Europe, has put 8,500 m² of shop space into operation under the Heinemann Duty Free brand together with Norse Trade, its Norwegian joint-venture partner. Measuring approx. 4,000 m², the area in Arrivals is the world’s largest Duty Free Arrival Shop. The starting point for shop design by Syndicate is the shopfitting system utilised for Heinemann for years, now expanded and customised to meet the project targets in Oslo. Heinemann substantially broadened the duty free range for Oslo: highlights are the newly designed brand concepts “Gifting” and “Men’s World”. One special range emphasis lies on local and sustainable products, e.g. the offer from Norwegian microbreweries. Conceived as “walk-throughs”, each of the shopping complexes has several accesses, especially wide aisles, and a convenient checkout with numerous registers to enable comfortable and less-stress strolling along the concourses for landing passengers. The design bracket includes the crafting of natural-looking materials, the cross-linking of Norwegian with international architecture, and the accent on regional origin. The new shop in the Departures area of the North terminal additionally offers a “natural” atmosphere which is created, inter alia, by fully grown, genuine trees in the shop.
