This five-story, 250,000-square-foot New Balance World Headquarters building is the sole LEED v2009 CS Platinum project in the United States to achieve all Indoor Environmental Quality credits, and only the third in the world. This milestone is an expression of New Balance’s commitment to pursuing the highest levels of sustainability for its products, facilities, and operations, as well as its long history of working to give back to the communities in which it operates and manufactures. New Balance leadership envisioned its new headquarters as a state-of-the-art environment that would embody their corporate commitment to the health and well-being of its employees and its community. Significant energy savings are achieved by reducing fan operation through the use of chilled beams and finned-tube radiation to provide heating and cooling for the perimeter spaces. An under-floor air distribution system with limited supply air ductwork reduces the static pressure of the system, resulting in a lower fan motor horsepower. Materials used for the interiors included low-VOC paints and coatings, adhesives, and sealants. All flooring systems comply with appropriate FloorScore certification or the Carpet Rug Institute Green label program. Careful consideration was taken to provide employees with plentiful daylight, fresh air, and green space. Floor-to-ceiling windows on all sides and glass-walled conference rooms grouped at the core allow daylight to reach deep into every floor.
