We renovated the cellar level of a co- working space, it now features a 90-seat screening room that sits front and center, two open work/lounge seating areas that flank the theater, and an opulent concession stand with an adjacent bar. Inspired by 1960s Italian cinemas, the elegant and playful space is layered with classic materials and bold colors. Green is a through line throughout—ceilings are painted a dark green and help to keep eye level to the ground plane. The flow of movement is cleverly orchestrated by a series of ‘pinch points’ in the lounge spaces that surround the screening room. The seating is a mix of traditional theater seats, banquettes, and lounge furniture to create different ways of gathering, viewing, and working.

Visitors enter the Cinema and are welcomed into the warm glow of the bar lounge, an open, comfortable area with plush velvet seating. The varied seating arrangements help define distinct areas. These small niches allow for intimate seating moments. The gold, amber, and deep green tones instill a retro feel that is enhanced by the modern whimsy of round, sculptural lighting fixtures. Marble coffee and side tables add dimension.

The curved bar has a subtle, linear cascading effect that conceals strips of light that illuminate the dark burgundy bar die. An overhead extension with marquee lighting references traditional cinema interiors. A pair of curved metal screens on either side of the bar have integrated custom sconces.

The screening room maintains an emerald green monochrome palette that is elevated through the combination of materials and textures, like plush velvet seating and natural wood details. Banquette seating lines the back wall, while more traditional, tiered theater seating fills most of the room. The front row is comprised of sectioned loveseats. Loose seating—easy to remove or reconfigure—is arranged in front of the screen. In addition to being a place for members to enjoy screenings, the room is also available to brands for events and presentations.

The Green Room connects to the screening room through its own entrance, and can easily transform from a conference room to a private area in which to host casual meetings or entertain clients. The standard configuration consists of a long marble table with 14 metal-framed leather armchairs. However, the table is sectioned into three separate parts, and can be moved around depending on how the room is used. Millwork bookshelves and cabinets line one side of the wall.

The screening room lounge sits on the other side of the screening room, closer to the concession stand. The lime wash walls are rhythmically punctuated by applied metallic trim.

The furnishings and overall palette are an extension of the bar lounge, incorporating the same curved, plush textures alongside crisp linear forms. For some of the niches, curved corners add variety. A fireplace at the far end of the room is a key component in emphasizing the intimate, warm nature of the Cinema.
