Alleyway × baseball stadium – Creating an immersive design

A baseball stadium is typically thought of as a place to watch baseball. However, breaking free from that conventional idea, HOKKAIDO BALLPARK is designed to be a space where not only baseball fans but anyone can have a great time. Located behind the backstop, the "Nanatsuboshi Yokocho" (Seven Stars Alley) has been designed to replicate the excitement and sense of unity unique to a baseball stadium, where tens of thousands of spectators are captivated by "unscripted dramas." The entire alley area is imagined as a ballpark, with a layout resembling an alleyway connecting first base to second base, centered around a mound.

To allow visitors to enjoy meals while feeling the stadium's energy, the area features open seating along the concourse for better visibility and connectivity. It also includes individual shops along the alley with roofs of varying heights and depths (using tent fabric), creating a vibrant yokocho-style streetscape. Columns wrapped in protective mats that mimic baseball backstops and signage modeled after backstop fences further incorporate stadium-like elements, evoking the lively, chaotic charm of an alley.

The space is designed to encourage casual standing drinks and alley-side drinking, fostering an atmosphere where visitors can easily connect and cheer with the person next to them. This provides a dining experience full of the excitement and immediacy unique to stadiums, aiming to create new value for sports facilities.
