A dialogue between German minimalism and Mexican industrial roots

Renowned German eyewear brand MYKITA has opened a new concept store in Monterrey, located in Plaza O2, San Pedro Garza García. Designed by JDE Design, led by Jorge DiegoEtienne, the space merges MYKITA's minimalist and functional aesthetic with a tribute to the industrial heritage of both Berlin and Monterrey, creating a balance between modernity and
tradition.

Materiality and design: bridging context and brand

Inspired by MYKITA's philosophy, the store’s design integrates craftsmanship and technology, using materials such as steel, clay, and ceramic flooring. Steel, a defining material in MYKITA's eyewear, reflects Berlin's industrial spirit, while clay and ceramic honor Monterrey's cultural richness. The juxtaposition of modern textures and traditional materials establishes a unique connection to the local context, reinforcing the brand's commitment to authenticity and context-sensitive design.

A space that enhances the shopping experience

The interior features spaciousness, natural light, and clean lines, offering a dynamic yet relaxing shopping experience. At the heart of the design is the MYKITA Wall, a signature element of the brand's stores. This white wall organizes and displays the collections with striking visual impact, linking MYKITA's modernity with local traditions.

Stainless steel plays a central role, embodying the brand's technical precision while adding a sense of modernity and solidity to the space. Carefully finished, its polished surfaces interact with natural light, creating a dynamic and sophisticated atmosphere.

Complementing this are pieces from the René collection, designed by JDE for Los Patrones, a Monterrey-based steel furniture brand. With a raw steel finish, the furniture’s soft, curved forms contrast with the store's rectilinear design. Visitors are invited to sit on the bench outside the store or on the high stools at the interior’s central bar, blending functionality with an industrial aesthetic.

Celebrating local culture

"The vibrant craftsmanship and deep artistic skill rooted in Mexican heritage have always resonated with our brand," said Moritz Krueger, founder of MYKITA. "We’re thrilled to open this space in Monterrey and share the full MYKITA experience with the unique touch of our Mexican team. "With its distinctive design and meticulous attention to detail, MYKITA's Monterrey concept store sets a new standard for commercial spaces in the city, inviting visitors to explore a world where design, technology, and tradition converge.
