Project Positioning
At the heart of Shenzhen MIXC WORLD Water Plaza, MXTR PARK is shaped by the “MIXTURE Park” concept, blending bold geometric forms with open, three-dimensional public space. This landmark fuses commercial value and civic character, aiming to deeply integrate retail flows with urban life and become a dynamic connector between economic energy and public engagement.
Current Conditions and Challenges
The project faces two main challenges. First, though INSTREET and HIGH STREET meet at Water Plaza, the weak commercial atmosphere prevents a continuous retail loop. Second, the site sits at the end of HIGH STREET with no strong visual identity, lacking a clear focal point. These issues reduce both spatial quality and commercial appeal.
Planning Strategy
After extensive design studies, a cylindrical form was chosen for its symbolism and contextual relevance: the circle signifies rationality and humility; the shape visually complements the Bubblecoat Elephant sculpture; and its clean geometry aligns with nearby large-scale buildings. The planning strategy—“one arch, two terraces, three stages”—unfolds from this idea. Using Boolean techniques, the mass opens toward key circulation, creating a welcoming façade. Facing the plaza, three levels are activated: a flexible ground-floor market, a second-level seating terrace for events, and a rooftop “sky garden” as an elevated stage.
Design Strategy
A minimalist steel arch with an 18-meter span anchors the structure. The open south façade maximizes visibility. A sculpted stair canopy connects to the second level, blending function with form. Materials highlight contrast: a silver aluminum roof references nearby architecture and adds a sculptural feel, while wood and wood-toned aluminum panels soften the pedestrian scale. Landscape design applies a “blurred boundaries” approach, allowing public, leisure, and commercial zones to merge seamlessly.
Operational Strategy
MXTR PARK adopts a triadic operational model to ensure long-term vitality. Quality public space encourages dwell time, organically turning visitors into customers. “See and be seen” spatial moments foster interaction between users and architecture. Ground-floor areas are fragmented into micro-environments with a community feel, supporting flexible programming and sustained commercial activity.
Conclusion
With the logic of “one arch, two terraces, three stages,” MXTR PARK becomes a platform for urban engagement, balancing commercial efficiency with civic openness. It sets a precedent for compact architecture within dense urban contexts, offering a forward-thinking model that unites function, design, and social value.
