Mint Leaves is a clean, highly functional, primarily white home with unexpected twists and hints of teal and blue .
The foyer leads to a deconstructed unit, with innovative storage; A twin egg-like structure for knick-knacks, shelves draped in white mosaic for plants, a lifted shoe unit with mesh shutters and lastly the curved bars connecting the shoe unit to the twin eggs for hanging umbrellas and dog leashes.
The living room filled with fantasy accommodates a pack of 12 people. The white double height wall conquered by a 10’ mirror is an assortment of marble inlay, abstract steel shapes, carved 3D wooden pieces and a towering brass rod. A brick border at the top and the right corner of the wall, accented by a floor-to-ceiling linear light anchors the larger than life mirror. Ahead of the double height wall sits the distressed couch with robust circular legs and sleek brass arms. The floor underneath forms a tile rug weaved together by geometric patterned tile further bordered by three different shades of mosaics. Towards the other end of the tile rug stands the side table with a built-in planter box.
The mammoth sized art work in the dining is our creative interpretation of the famous poppies from the Wizard of OZ. Hand-twisted metal fall on to the gently sloped textured base, parts of these metal poppies flow out of the base. The circus bulb dotting the higher end of the slope illuminate the piece.
The dining area extends into an airy kitchen punctuated by patterned tiles. Between the two spaces stands the breakfast counter sheathed in grey blue mosaics on the front. The right corner with crisscross metal design houses planter trays while the left houses a hand-crafted solid wood fold-up unit. This high-utility white and blue breakfast zone transforms functionality into an art form.
The 3-piece unit in the home office stands out with its deeply stained blue shelves curving into a light fixture seeming like the Eye of Sauron. The base storage unit floats at a thoughtful angle saving our taller-than-average client from unnecessary knee bends.
The Master bed designed to meet different needs on either ends gives way to individuality. The centerpiece covered in rattan accompanied by leather, embroidery, metal, and wood brings out an eclectic mix. A moveable side table with shelves perfect for a mini library and drawers for knick-knacks is contradicted by a sleek, semi-circular floating table with half acrylic for a peep into the storage. For the taller-than-average occupant, a focus light is mounted higher than usual, a modern interpretation of a lamp post.
The home's material palette, including distressed wood, cement texture, mosaic facades, and a tile rug, creates a sustainable space for dogs, honoring each occupant's individuality.
At Mint Leaves the essence of minimalism doesn't equate to a lack of personality or warmth. Rather, it's a vibrant stage that allows the individuality of the inhabitants to take the spotlight.
