"MILL" is a new concept venue that has opened in the Nakasu district of FUKUOKA. "MILL" is an expansion and relocation project of the former CRATEGYM with the goal of changing to a new branding.
While the former CRATEGYM was for personal training only, "MILL" is a personal training gym with a co-working space and meditation room to enhance the lifestyle of its users.
This venue has three elemental spaces: a "co-working space," a "meditation room," and a "gym." The co-working space is usually available to gym members on a membership basis at any time, and is also a space where irregular gym events can be held, such as yoga events and a wide range of performances about wellness. The meditation room can be individually maintained with comfortable lighting and temperature, and the visual and sound can be customized to adapt to a variety of session uses. In the gym, you will be coached by a selection of highly qualified trainers. This venue is a space that aims to improve the lifestyle of its users by allowing them to move between the three functions.
This venue was originally used as an office, and in order to minimize construction costs and time, the walls and counters were reused by painting the existing wall surfaces as much as possible. The painted colors contain the new design concept of "relaxing and mindful," and the library shelves and chairs were selected to be color-coordinated with this concept. The tiled painted walls are a gradation color chart of the brand's key colors, expressing relaxation, youthfulness, and the joy of living. The existing floor was covered with vinyl floor tiles, which were removed to reveal the concrete. The doors that needed to be newly installed were relocated from the doors used in CRATEGYM. Some lighting fixtures were also relocated from CRATEGYM and reused in new forms. The bespoke tables are made of wood, steel pallets, and glass, and are laid out without fixing each piece in place. The bespoke sofas and other pieces are created with a same approach, allowing each material to be reused individually.
We were able to create the maximum effect with the minimum amount of construction work, paying respect to what was already there. Minimizing the number of new items to be built also minimizes industrial waste and costs when this venue is closed. We were able to face and solve these challenges to create a fun, feel-good wellness space.
We believe that wellness facilities will now need to be not only good for the body and mind as we spend our days, but also good for the environment and the future.
