Mercedes’ seventh brand store under the ‘Mercedes me’ umbrella, the Shanghai Mme brings a taste of the Mercedes life to customers and aspirational visitors alike. Though the building’s two floors were kept entirely separate, the design achieved a sense of flow from one area to the other; the floorplan was also quite limited, and since the Mme concept dictated that actual cars be also displayed in the brand areas, the team worked out solutions to include cars wherever possible without visually disrupting the space. The downstairs area features a chic and modern café restaurant replete with an eye-catching bar that uses Caribbean green marble for the countertop, Mercedes zones, and a service area for scheduling test drives. Upstairs, one finds their self in a more formal setting, with a VIP lounge bar and a fine-dining restaurant. While the first floor uses light oak paneling, black surfaces and frames for a sophisticated and clean aesthetic, the second-floor areas are dominated by higher-end fittings. The walnut timber floors, elegant brass finishing, golden mesh ceiling curtains, monochrome marble tabletops, textured ceramic walls, and embellished leather furniture meld together to create a sanctuary for the weary Shanghainese. Despite the absence of a grand atrium, the team was able to create an impressive yet welcoming entryway that guides visitors to the various brand zones and F&B areas, with a discernible flow of functions.
