Marshall’s Landing is a catered lounge, essentially a co-working café, restaurant and bar, located atop the Grand Stair at Chicago’s Merchandise Mart. This project represents a completely new amenity type and service model based on a need the designers found with in-depth programming research. A warm palette of textiles, leather and wood creates a comfortable feeling of home-based hospitality. Creative seating options offer opportunities for both work and leisure. “The Nook”, allows for group privacy or collaboration. Semi-enclosed “Phone Booth Pods” earmark space for quiet work. The lobby-like entrance acts as a living room. Banquettes along the edge of Chicago’s River drive offer unparalleled views and an elegant solution to a group meeting or dinner after work. Kallpod ™ technology is available throughout allowing patrons to summon service, only if desired. Guests are permitted to stay and work without ordering any service at all but also have the option to order lunch or drinks for a group meeting or individual working session at a latptop at the bar. The technology is set into marble docks that are resonant of original materials and objects found in historic photographs of the building’s original bar.
