The experience of peering into a shop window is like looking into world of possibilities - new, exciting and filled with temptations. These displays become small vignettes of our desires, our aspirations and who we hope to be.
In a world where we are so often driven by material desires, how can I change the experience of looking into a shop window? How can I create desire for something intangible, something as immaterial as light?
Luxe is an installation of light and colour that poses these questions. Set within the windows of luxury retailer Kastner & Öhler during the light festival Klanglicht, the glass panels refract light emitted by XAL light fixtures into bombastic displays of colour. These full-spectrum patterns play with ideas of luxury - the word itself coming from the Latin word for light - while evoking the total internal reflections of the cut gemstones sold within the doors of the luxury retailer.
Luxe reframes the experience of a commercial facade into an examination of our desires, notions of luxury, and the material possibilities of light.
