Lukullus in St.Tropez is an ice-cream shop that is a sibling of the Lukullus Patisserie, a family-owned, Warsaw-based pastry shop, ran by the third generation since 1946. This year Lukullus decided to open its own ice-cream shop, different from anything you have seen. The design has been imagined as an ode to the senses, where the rush of colours, details and structures are all there to give pleasure. First you see a pair of juicy tongues-the rainbow-hued neon in the window display. Then there’s the interior, full of opalescent corrugated metal, gold mirrors, quartzite and terrazzo. The first pink room boasts a monumental ice-cream counter, resembling an altar topped with two marble busts: tongue-in-cheek depictions of the owners. Apart from overseeing the business, they double as tills and… dustbins. The second jade green room features a gold palm tree of a lamp and eye-shaped relief, acting also as a window. In the centre there is a cylindrical-shaped toilet with a gold hand-dryer, disguised as a pair of buttocks. This ice-cream parlour shines with all colours of the rainbow; it’s deliciously camp, playful and full of erotic innuendos - all the better to arouse curiosity and joy. It took just one summer for it to become THE date night choice for the people of Warsaw.
