The client’s vision was to redefine excellence in senior living and Loveday Belgravia delivers on every level. The new-build care home combines wellness-led senior residential, dementia and 24-hour nursing care with rehabilitation and first-class hospitality, addressing Westminster’s critical shortage of dementia beds.

EPR’s architectural concept draws inspiration from the surrounding Chelsea mansion blocks, grounding the building in its context. The design softly undulates around an existing tree on-site, informing the scheme’s curvilinear form, evident in its curved corners and sculptural bay windows. The interiors creatively respond to the building's architectural language, with organic forms reflected throughout the spatial planning, creating a sense of calm and elegance. A palette of warm walnut and timber further enhances the building’s welcoming feel, while tactile details, including carefully designed handrails, textured surfaces and fluted wall treatments, improve the user experience, particularly for residents with sensory or mobility needs.

Comprising 44 high-quality care suites over seven floors, the scheme prioritises wellbeing and social connection. It incorporates a range of healthcare-focused amenities, including a gym and hydro treadmill for rehabilitation alongside a cocktail lounge, art studio, hair salon and a communal lounge on every floor. Shared spaces, including the studio and dining areas were designed with functionality and flexibility in mind to support a range of activities such as yoga, art classes and meetings. Bespoke joinery discreetly conceals equipment, enabling these spaces to adapt as residents’ needs evolve.

Innovation is embedded throughout, from materiality to spatial experience. A smart lighting system adjusts light levels and temperature throughout the day to support circadian rhythms, improve sleep and promote wellbeing. Moreover, colours and finishes were thoughtfully selected to offer gentle contrasts and subtle texture changes between surfaces, aiding visual accessibility. Wayfinding is also seamlessly integrated. Each floor has its own accent colour, which is subtly integrated into the communal areas and echoed in furnishings and finishes. These visual and sensory cues help residents, especially those with cognitive impairments, navigate independently, without needing to rely on signage.

Sustainability was a core driver of the design. The all-electric scheme features photovoltaic panels, air source heat pumps and enhanced biodiversity measures. Internally, low-VOC anti-microbial paints were selected for a healthier environment and high-performance FF&E were specified across all areas. Each piece was chosen for its exceptional durability and timeless design. These features put the project on track to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating. Loveday Belgravia also supports local employment by sourcing goods and services from nearby trades, including butchers, wine suppliers and bakers wherever possible.
