Beauty, innovation and home feeling to redefine workplace design

In the heart of Milan, L’Oréal Italia’s new headquarters redefines the concept of the modern workplace, placing people, beauty, and sustainability at its core. Designed by DEGW, a business unit of Lombardini22, this 10,000-square-meter office is a dynamic, evolving environment where architecture, design, and technology come together to enhance well-being, creativity, and collaboration.

Shifting away from traditional office layouts, the headquarters embraces an open, flexible design that prioritizes movement, interaction, and adaptability. The workspace is fluid, allowing employees to transition seamlessly between focus areas, co-working zones, and collaborative hubs. No assigned desks, no rigid structures – just a space that moulds itself around the needs of its users. Custom-designed furniture, immersive branding, and bespoke product display areas reinforce a powerful sense of belonging, making this office more than just a workplace: it is a reflection of L’Oréal’s identity and values.

A key aspect of the design is the “home feeling” concept, which transforms the office into a warm, inviting environment. Each floor features thematic break areas inspired by L’Oréal’s various divisions, offering employees spaces that are not only functional but also deeply connected to the company’s culture. Panoramic terraces, a rooftop café, and a free-flow restaurant encourage social interaction, relaxation, and informal meetings, enhancing both productivity and employee satisfaction.

Sustainability is embedded in every detail. The office operates with a paperless policy, supported by personal lockers and centralized copy stations to reduce waste. Energy-efficient lighting, natural ventilation, and sound-absorbing materials create a workspace that is both environmentally responsible and comfortable. The use of eco-friendly materials and the integration of green-certified technologies align with L’Oréal’s commitment to ESG principles, proving that corporate spaces can be both high-performing and sustainable.

Beyond environmental impact, inclusivity is a defining feature of this headquarters. Ergonomic seating, flexible workstations, and optimized acoustics ensure accessibility for all employees, making diversity and equity tangible elements of the design. Smart technology enhances functionality—interactive LED walls, modular meeting rooms, and seamless digital interfaces create a workspace that is not only beautiful but also intuitive and efficient.

L’Oréal Italia’s headquarters is more than an office—it is a vision of the future of work. It embodies a new paradigm where innovation meets well-being, where design serves people, and where beauty moves beyond aesthetics to become a transformative force in the workplace.
