As a place to portray the mind of Levi’s, the Haus of Strauss was located in cities like LA and London. This project marks its 3rd worldwide location, Tokyo. Levi’s is a denim brand which has been expressing its universal stance towards the future with respect towards its long history rooting in the 1850’s. After deep researches towards materials, we aimed for a simple and strong expression considering the existence of old buildings in Japan and a Haus of Strauss different from the ones in LA and London. Our approach towards this building from the 1990's with three floors was to take in existing details such as the glass blocks which portrays its history, and to create a composition in contrast to the given chronological history. To portray the simplicity and deepness of the denim, we selected used footing wood as a material to express the deep history of the brand. These were shaved partially to create a contrast between the fresh surface and the details on the used old surface of the wood, which links to the brands innovative but respectful stance towards its long history continuing from the 1850’s.
