Union Station’s historic-yet-neutral palette was an ideal backdrop for the design team’s captivating design elements. GrizForm employed clean lines and interesting textures throughout the restaurant, outfitted by a mixture of light European oak, painted wooden dowels, zinc fish scale tiles, and geometric flooring. Fun and bold-yet-refined splashes of color make the space pop. From afar, the color scheme of the bar and eatery can be spotted on the dowels, enticing travelers to enter the space. Once stepping into the bar, guests are greeted by a colorful palm frond floor and a series of geometric tiles clearly demarcate the restaurant from the rest of the station. Furniture upholstered in dusty rose-colored leather and touches of stainless steel balance the casual atmosphere with the brand’s refined personality. Additional texture and illumination is added from an over-bar structure which hangs below the station’s historic cast iron exposed ceiling. Just over 2,000 sqft., an efficient layout was paramount for the 71-seat casual dining outpost. Dominated by a large doughnut-shaped central bar, patrons can sit near the concourse or back into the space for more seclusion. The bar was planned to allow for the most bar seats possible with the smallest footprint, allowing for maximized seating, yet small enough for a single bartender to cover it during the quieter hours.
