Le Coq Wine & Bistro is a well-known place to enjoy and cherish moments. The design team consider each space itself has unique attributes, like different glasses filling with various types of wines. While a toast, the banging of three glasses naturally creates three different 'waves' following the internal shapes of each one. The design studio wants to capture that moment and adapt it to this unique space. The original site is located on the ground floor of Hangzhou Tower, facing the unique location of the grand canal Beijing – Hangzhou. This project is composed of two storeys connected by a staircase. The two floors are not overlaying but alongside each other. The first time they walked inside this space, they felt the space like a long 'corridor'. The width of this space is 18m, and the depth is only 3,5m. The challenge was to create a unique drinking experience by making the customers forget about this 'corridor' existing condition. The bar is separated from the kitchen located on the second floor. It allows to place the bar at the visual centre of the whole shop on the ground floor and to maximise the display and flowing functions of the bar. They decided to use sliding doors to open the entire façade. It allows the bar to become an internal and external linkage. Moreover, following the main idea, they extended the wine display cabinet behind the bar, as the first 'wave', from background to top, towards the outside, creating a natural canopy. These increase the space depth and blur the boundary between inside and outside. Customers can choose wherever they want to drink and eat. The arched ceiling as the second 'wave 'is in banquette seating, like a time and space tunnel, emphasising the sense of space extension. They designed the third 'wave' as one installation of art hanging on the ceiling - one whole metal piece twisted naturally like the shape of a liquid's collision to bring a focus point. Used Grey bricks with random patterns connect the two storeys and guide customers to each VIP room floor, with full openable sliding doors. Full-height cabinets for glasses on the brick wall are convenient to store and display simultaneously.
