BLEU GRIS AGENCE
BLEU GRIS AGENCE
SARL GROUPE PAOLI
The Dandy is a French Mediterranean style restaurant, bar and terrace, located in the historic area of Nice harbour, in a former paint shop. The whole look and feel celebrates the Dandy’s lifestyle: elegant, edgy, trendy, charming, flamboyant with a contemporary twist.
The main challenge was to bring together two different apartments, in a consistent design, with a sleek customer journey, while maintaining the buildings heritage. The bar is the central part of the restaurant, a hot spot where you can enjoy the warm and vibrant atmosphere before sitting at a dining table. The indoor - outdoor connection was key, you can indeed see the street life from every corner of the venue.
The material and colour palette is inspired by fashion: an electric blue, mixed with touches of solar yellow, and arches as references to the French Riviera. The space offers an immersive dive into a men’s and ladies’ club, with a card game played as a ceiling all over, bistro like tables and banquettes, bespoke seatings, dressed with hound’s tooth pattern, velvet and leather fabrics, as well as sophisticated and funny details, such as vintage brass mirrors, hat- like suspended lightings and jewellery bow ties.
At a time where minimalism has become standard, what makes this project unique is its generosity in the storytelling, in the cosy look and feel and in the multiple destinations offered to the customers. It is a place like no other, breaking the classic codes, where fashion and interior design meet, reviving the past with a contemporary twist.
The Dandy eatery is seamlessly connected with its neighbourhood, lively, touristy and gay friendly. It is a meeting point between locals and foreigners, a venue with a daring and bold spirit bringing joy and delight into people’s life. Open from 7 am til midnight, it is a familiar place to go to from an early morning French breakfast to a tapas-like appetizer, or a fancy dinner.
Beyond the daring material combination and playful touches, the innovation and artistic merit also comes from the designer request to work with local artisans and artists: from the brand identity hand made and painted on the shopfront by Thierry Ollivier, to the furniture fabrics and tiles made in the surrounding Mediterranean countries such as Portugal, and the curation of the local artist MARIE, who created the gallery of bow tied jewellery, each unique pieces putting a smile on your face.
