The over all design is an “industrial chic” feel which called for dramatic accent lighting on the textured surfaces, hidden indirect lighting between materials and floating light elements that frame the open spaces below. The over all design is an “industrial chic” feel which called for dramatic accent lighting on the textured surfaces, hidden indirect lighting between materials and floating light elements that frame the open spaces below. With all views facing predominantly north, ambient light floods the building. Pairing this ambient light with artificial accents and contrasts in the decorative glass wall fixtures enhances the spaces dramatically throughout the day. In contrast, the spaces which don’t open towards the outdoor deck, shadow is used to give depth and unique fixtures made of seemingly mundane objects cast striking shadows across exposed brick walls or rough formed concrete finishes. The finishing touches bring the raw material counters and service stations to life. From the glowing backlit glass reception counter, towel station and floor accents along the bar counters, the indirect light draws a crisp edge between materials, creating visual drama. The two suppliers for the project were Delta Lights – for the architectural lighting and Fabraca studio for the decorative lighting. LSD worked with Delta Light to combine the three lighting collections to create everything from the open ceiling lighting solutions to the unique framed elements in the open-gym area. With Fabric Studios, a similar strategy was also used. Bespoke decorative lighting fixtures were modified to either change the colour of the light emitted through the glass or the shadow being cast in the interest of enhancing the “industrial chic” theme carried through the project.
