Guests are greeted by a welcoming flow as they enter the premises of the Laguna City Medical Centre. First-time visitors are often left speechless, occasionally taking a step back to admire this new space from a different perspective. It takes a while for them to be convinced that they have stepped into a medical clinic.
Laguna City Medical Centre defies the typical notion of a health establishment, where patients feel scared and uncomfortable. While it offers general practitioner services, vaccination services, and minor emergency procedures, the project itself was designed to celebrate the joy of abundant health and the natural flow of wellness. After all, a healthy body begins with a relaxed mind.
The enclosed hallway allows guests to leave behind the hustle and bustle of their busy lives and focus primarily on their wellness journey. Thoughtfully chosen design elements such as gradient fabrics, textured paints, artful wall coverings, fresh plants, and circadian lighting all contribute to a sense of ease and the importance of wellness in our lives.
In a world still recovering from the global pandemic, a boutique-style clinic dedicated to health and wellness is a delightful surprise. With primary care options for people of all ages, medical procedures are carried out in a serene, soothing, and stylish environment, alleviating the stress and anxiety often associated with traditional healthcare institutions.
Designer JJ. Acuna explains, "We aim to remove the corporate aspect of healthcare and focus on evoking feelings of joy and happiness. We have carefully selected colours and materials that evoke the tranquility of nature and pastoral spaces. Our lighting technology aligns with circadian rhythms, mimicking natural daylight effects. Additionally, we have installed CoeLux lighting fixtures to bring daylight indoors, compensating for the absence of windows facing outside in the shopping center space."
The waiting area, adorned with glass, circular walls, and wave-like couches, exemplifies the fluidity of movement. The partitions provide a sense of privacy, while the dominant soft hues promote wellness concepts and peace of mind. "The earth-toned auburn used for the powder coat skirting and frames anchors the flowing walls and creates a contrast against the light floors of the off-white gradient Venetian plaster walls," states Vivian Wu, design lead on this project.
Beyond its stylish approach to total wellness, this boutique clinic addresses the current health concerns and directly caters to the needs of millennials who are seeking the best medical plan for their growing children and aging parents.
"We aim to foster joy and the natural flow of wellness. Even if patients visit the clinic due to a health issue, we want them to feel fully supported because health is a celebration of personal abundance," he said.
