La Pilar is a grill house located in a small city in southern Spain.

As profuse and ambitious as the design concept was, our client requested we use wood as it reminded him of an early memory of eating steak as a child. We understood this memory to be an opportunity to look into the past not with wistfulness, but something that could celebrate time, as an evolution.

As the client had quite clearly arranged the running and construction materials of the restaurant, we focused on an eye-catching element that could be flexible with our client’s vision and could create at the same time an immersive environment.
To build a popular spanish grill house means getting immersed in the thick, fleshy, warm textures, present in both the visual and dining experiences.
We have banked on this concept of a traditional “dense and full” wood design from our lighter contemporaneity. The organic and serene movement of the ceiling tries to surpass the duality of past and future by merging old memories and modern aesthetics. The result is a wavy installation of cut logs and green glass bottles, creating an organic environment using low-tech resources.
