The LA MAISON boutique hotel, Saarlouis, combines a villa, a former court building and a caretaker's house with a new three-story 38 room building. NICOLAY DESIGN, explains the aesthetic common denominator that runs through the ensemble: "We started with the building‘s genetic code, whose history deserves to be highlighted and wove in the culture and lifestyle of Saarlouis, by emphasizing three aspects, 1) Saarlouis, 2) the culinary experience and 3) the park, as leitmotifs and varied them throughout different levels." The new building’s 30 m² rooms, focusing on “urbanity and nature”, where 18 balcony rooms face the hotel’s park, while 14 face the city, which is also reflected in the rooms’ designs, complete the corporate design. The lighting design, with its scenic and circadian lighting is pleasing to the guests and bring out the hotel’s character. The storytelling incorporates selected references to Saarlouis, beginning with Louis XIV, with design and culinary delights; sometimes obvious, sometimes hidden, often tongue in cheek or unconventional. Drawings of the typical hexagonal floor plan of that period’s military installations have been used to create a new aesthetic as a light installation behind the reception. The result: A hotel with a unique identity.
